Question headlights got pulled over twice in a week
I got pulled over last week about failure to dim my lights ok fine i told him i want to be seen but tonight on my way home from work another cop pulls me over and says the reason why is because i have a headlight out i told him the other is highbeam so he gives me a warning and tells me to use them.WTF bye the way is a 02 cbr f4i so what am i to do it seems whichever way i go im stuck or does it depends on officer
his headlight is not broken. Its a two piece light where one side is low beam and the other side is the high beam. The police officer who pulled you over saying that your light was out didnt know that the other was a high beam and once you told him it was he figured he'd say that he was going to give you a warning instead of manning up about being wrong.
I do believe there is some sort of mod you can do to where both lights will light up as low beam and you will have a dual filamant bulb for high beams. As for driving around with your high beams to be seen, as a driver myself i cant stand it. Even in the day time your high beam is really bright and causes me to look away. Whether its just me that does it i dont know. I know i have really sensitive eyes to light though. Just a thought.

I have an f4i as well. I've had two cops tell me i have a headlight out and need to fix it ASAP. Both times I've told them the right unit is highbeam only, and they usually just stop talking right there lol. Both times were in a 7-11 parking lot.
Depending on what road I'm on I ride around w/ the highbeam on anyway. Is your low beam dim? I just put in a 100 watt silverstar bulb and it is not bright at all. If I go down a road w/ no street lights I can't see a damn thing.

I have a 636 which works the same way. I mostly keep my highs on cuz I got tired of people telling me a bulb was out! Never had any problems with it since...but I don't get out much, so maybe they just feel sorry for me!
anyway, i dont cruise around with my high beams on, and expecially not during the day. If someone is going to hit you in the daytime because they didnt see you, chances are, your headlights arent going to really matter if they were on or not.
I do, however, get a lot of people who flash their high beams at me when im riding at night because they think my high beams are on when they arent.
if they're flashing thier lights at you with just your lows on, you might need to re-aim your headlight.
as far as the f4i/636 headlight out crap, your going to have to just explain to every cop that pulls you over that one side is low, the other side is high. if they do happen to write you a ticket for it, you're going to have to explain it to the judge. the only way around it is to mod the headlight so that both sides have a low beam. sucks, but to the average person (including the cops) it just looks like you have a light out.

Listen to skrooze's post.
I had to tell the mechanics that does state inspection that the headlights are supposed to be that way.
If you actually do go to court, bring proof, pictures and information from Honda's website. Put that officer on the spot first by saying that you told him/her that the other light is for high beams.
