Usually get some mounting tabs tacked on to the end tanks, or get some pins welded on (for mounting like a radiator). It's different for every car, and every size of intercooler.

I used douple-sided-sticky-tape. Insane bondage. Pretty much pro-status.

It would help if you gave us the make and model. Its a pretty straight forward thing to do but its time consuming.
