Has anyone done this yet because i have a buddy that has a problem with boost spike under even low boost(12) and wanted to see if there is a way to change out the exhaust side of the turbo to a external gate instead of the internal... Thanks

 

well I know some internally gated turbos have the flaps built into the exhaust housing, so im pretty sure that flap should stay shut once its disconnected and remove the vaccum pot and what not, then run your external gate. Take some pictures and post what your trying to do it will be a greater help to explain what your working with.

 

i've converted two subaru turbos to external before. I simply welded the flappers shut on them.

 

sounds like your buddy needs a better boost controller or wastegate actuator (HKS makes a good one).
