when you say it sounds like it trying to start is there any fire atall or is it just cranking with nothing. sure your getting fuel? also check your base timing if its sputtering but not starting. another thing to double check is grounds, if unsure use some jumper cables to ground the motor the the negative battery terminal and the motor to the chassis of the car. youd be surprised how often thatl cause problems.

so just ground the battery to the chassis of the car, anyway what where you saying about the base timing, and yes i pulled out the brand new ngk spark plugs and theres fuel on them, and in the cylinders, you can smell it, anyway let me know

 

would the starter be bad and cause this,

 

I had the same problem with my civic. I had spark but no start. Come to find out the spark i had was just not strong enough. My dizzy was bad and had to be replaced.

 

Check your timing. Make sure your crank is at TDC as well as your Cams. I know nothing about DSM's so can't tell you what to do or look for, but that is basic engine stuff. The three main thing the engine needs to start is fuel, spark and timing.

 

ya the timing is good, im sure its the coils, has to be, the power going to them is good, but the power coming out is crap

 

check the ecu, dsm's are known for leaking capacitor in the ecu dissolving the chipboard.

 

i just went out and messed with it, the timing is off by about 2.5 almost 3 teeth, its back tdc by about 2inches

 

i was going through the same thing not too long ago. my car was turning over and shaking like it wanted to start. the first problem was part of my wiring harness was cut up by my fan and two the fuse for my starter was bad
