Default Need help looking at a 1996 GT mustang

Here is my problem, I'm in the market for a 1994-1998 Mustang, either a GT or Cobra. I found a couple and one in particular is a 1996 GT that supposedly has extensive top end work and claims 305 hp at the wheels, but he also has 4.11 gears. The exhaust might have a collector that is leaking and the passenger side timing chain sounds like is slapping the cover. He also claims that he needs to have the car idle at a 1000 rpms or it will stall and that sound like he's hidding something. I went for a ride in it and it pulls pretty hard, but I know gears will wake a car right up and I need a second opinion preferably someone with experience in the 4.6's and has a pony that has similar stats as what this guy is claiming about his car. I like someone to take a look at it today with me if possible and give me a call around 4pm at 757-462-9047. Also like I said if you have a clean pony that is mildly modded I'm willing to take a look at it and make an offer if you're looking to sell it. If and when you do call, ask for Joe and let me know you're gonna help me check this car out.

If he actually has the heads, manifold, and cams 305 is probably close to a good number.

Is it an auto or 5 sp? If it's an auto, that could explain the idle issue esp with a cam. If it's a 5 spd something might be wrong in the tune. The 94-98s are notorious for having idle issues after modifications.

How many miles...if it has high miles, the timing chain could be very loose

first, if you already have a feeling that the guy is HIDING something, then you need to drop the deal and walk away. You dont want to find out you've been screwed in one month.

WALK AWAY.

The car has 87,000 miles, but he claims the top-end buildup has only 15,000 miles on it. What scares me is he claims the pros at Dallas mustang did the mods and I've heard mixed reviews. It also has a full exhaust, but he left the the intake stock, no cold air? Other than that, the car is in good shape. Hell if it was something really serious I don't think he would be beating on it like he did showing me how it ran. I was told its not that hard to replace the chains and guides. I'm new to modding these motors and don't know what to look for. If I decide to get this car where would be a good place to have it checked out at? If it gets a good review from someone experienced in these cars, I'll buy it. I don't mind putting a little money into it to fix minor problems and how much does it run around here for a decent tune?

Bullshit...replacing the chain and guides on a 4.6 2v is a bastard and shouldn't be done at home unless you're into pain and agony and have a bunch of specialized tools.

You might be able to take it to Rocket Perfomance in NN...heard good things about them

Probably close to $1000 with labor and all. It's a good 8 hour process. I'm ball parking it since if you get that far you might as well replace the cams and that's about what a cam swap would cost

Might want to call a shop and see.

This one is a much better deal. Willing to come down a bit on price if you're interested.
