Default Bit the pavement.

8/30/07

I was on my way home from work on my bike in the left hand part of the left hand lane (4 lane highway with a center turning lane) heading south to my house. I had just passed a truck which was in the right hand lane and had checked my speed (~52mph in a 50mph zone) and went about another mile with no other traffic in the lanes ahead of me for at least a mile when I see a blue car come zipping up to the intersection on the right hand side of the road. He sat there until I probably travelled another 200+ yards and when I was about 50 feet from him, he decided to pull out hard to turn north. He then saw me coming, slammed on his brakes and came to rest in my lane. I kicked the bike to the side and laid it down and just let go and hoped for the best. The bike went right into the guys front bumper and I rolled down the turning lane.

Before everyone starts hounding me, my gear was inbetween houses as I was in the process of moving. I was wearing a Shoei TZ-R helmet and full length canvas-like material carpenter pants and a short sleeve polo shirt. My bike is destroyed. I do not have pictures of it yet. I have pictures of my wounds and things of that nature on my myspace page. (myspace.com/obxboost) I am not hotlinking them as they are somewhat graphic. The guy in the blue car was cited for "failure to yield." The guy in the truck I passed was a witness to it and pretty much stated that it looked like it was intentional because of the timing.

Anyway, I am alive and my hands/arms took the worst of it. If Suzuki makes another white Hayabusa, I will be back riding again and will never let my jacket or gloves get away from me again.

I'm glad you're still alive and are able to tell us your story. RIP busa, but you lived to ride another day.

suspect of what?

Just for clarification, the "intersection" did not have a traffic light as the "road" he was pulling out of was parking lot of a dairy queen in Nags Head.

Glad you're ok. Sounds like a wild ride. I miss my two wheeler, but I don't miss the constant worry that someone else won't see me... That's for sure. I'll have another one sooner or later.

PS Your myspace is set to private, so only friends can view the pics. I'm just gonna shoot you a friend request.

Damn dude that sucks. Good to hear your ok though. Seems kinda "fishy" to me with the guy waiting to long to pull out and shit. Same thing happened to a buddy of mine last week, only he didn't get stopped and flipped over the front of the truck and ended up in the hospital. It kinda seems fishy cause of those "sweep and swoop" commercials. Who knows, some people are just idiots.

I was actually in Nags head for the labor day weekend. I wasn't in the right state of mind to call anyone though.
