Need opinions on flat tv's WTB one for my room..tv lovers please respond.
Hello all,
I dont know much about these new fangled tvs. All i know is that the blues are now turning purple on my CRT tv and its fuckin with me when I watch Deadliest catch and think their are pulling crab out of an ocean of Kool-aid.
I was told by a buddy that plasma is a BAD IDEA for playing video games because the possibility exists for the image to "burn" into the tv.
SO that leaves...dlp, umm...yea. I'm lost after that.
I've seen some "no name brands" go for good prices but I have no idea if they are actually good or not. I would ask the guys at a retail store but they may be a little biased.
I have an 360 elite w/ the HDMI cables so i want to be able to play my games in HD as well.
Basically, I want to spend $500 (less is better) for a 32" that I can mount on my wall.

You're a little low price-wise. You need to spend more to get a quality 32" LCD. IIRC, a LG 32" 720p LCD will run you in the $800-1000 range. I don't keep up on all the prices only because in my price range, I was only concerned with LG and Samsung.
Your buddy isn't completely right on saying avoid plasma, either. I usea 42" LG plasma for video games, movies and a computer monitor. I've yet to have any problems with burn-in. Ritz uses his similarily (more video games, less computer) and hasn't had issues either. And if you think about, the start bar is a huge item that would burn in. TVs have things like white wash, pixel shift, etc. to prevent burn in.
I've noticed some of the house brands and best buy and wholesale clubs are really getting down there in price, but I don't think their quality is nearly that of the larger name brands. People wil say things like, There are only three companies that make LCD cores for televisions. or they all have the same ammount of lines of resolution., but you and I both know that some items really are better. Do some research on www.cnet.com with specific models you're interested in and get what suits you best.

see thats the kinda info i need to get up on.
I do know that 1080p is crazy expensive so I think I'll pass on that. 720 should be just fine.
I'm going to read up on the site you mentioned but if anyone has anything useful to add, please do.

Look at things like contrast ratio on the less expensive TVs and then the more expensive ones. I just looked at my TV; it's rated 10,000:1 contrast ratio. One of the Westinghouse LCDs was rated at 800:1.
There are other things to consider when picking up a TV as well. Are you going to be trying to keep it for years, or do you plan on upgrading to something better in a few years and moving this TV to a bedroom/den? Apparently 1440p is around the corner and 1080p tvs will be coming down in price and so will 720p. There are only a handfull of 360 games that support 1080 so you maybe wasting your money going for a 1080 at this time.
My game plan is to upgrade to something better when the Bluray/HD DVD fight is over and the next gen tvs have come down in price. The HD movie formats will show off the higher resolution TVs better than the video games, IMO.

I want this for now. I'll possbily be upgrading in the next few years but probably keeping this in the bedroom. The den will see the "new hotness" that will come out int eh near future.
i am following your path of logic. 720 will be acceptable, and in the event HD dvd wins the war I'll just get the HD drive for my 360 and use that as my dvd player from that point forward.
