Default Steering Wheel question (Mustang Guys)

So my stock steering wheel is starting to show its age (11years old) and i think i'm going to upgrade to either a full racing wheel or a FR500 steering wheel. Has anyone had any experiance with the FR500 wheel? Is it smaller all around or just thicker. Is the FR500 wheel any different then the wheel that comes on the Cobras from the factory(03-04)?

The only reason i'd rather go with the FR500 over a full racing wheel is being able to pass inspection without having to constently change, and I have the cruise control buttons on the OEM steering wheel which I can change over to the FR500 but obviously not the full racing wheel.

Any thoughts?

The FR500 wheel only comes in black IIRC.
Just try and find another stock one.

The FR500 wheel is thicker than the Cobra wheel.

You would pass inspection with the "racing" wheel as long as it's larger than 13" and you disable the airbag light, since the bag will be removed. Quote from the inspection manual:
13. Any modification or replacement has been made to the steering wheel that affects proper steering. The steering wheel shall be rejected if the outside diameter is less than 13 inches unless original factory equipment.
E. Air bag readiness light.

Turn the ignition key to the on position, the air bag readiness light will indicate normal system operation by lighting for six to eight seconds, then turning off. A system malfunction is indicated by the flashing or continuous illumination of the readiness light or failure of the light to turn on.

NOTE: Reject the vehicle if the air bag readiness light fails to light or stays on continuously or flashes.

EXCEPTION: Do not reject if the air bag has been deployed or removed, provided the air bag warning light has been disabled.

Really? Thats news to me I was always under the impression that if it came from the factory with an air bag it had to have one to pass inspection. Thats good to know for the future.

I think i'm going to go with the FR500 just because I can keep the cruise controls.

Yea, the state allows you to disable the entire system, to include removing the bags and disabling the light. I was surprised to find this out too.

If you get a FR500 wheel installed before I do, I'll kick you square in the nuts.

Well you better get it before x-mas because i see a fr500 steering wheel, Steeda rear adjustable sway bar, and subframes tucked under the tree.

That plus my new mid-pipe i got put on and the 3.73's i got not too long ago my car should feel pretty nice. Just no power
