How much oil should a 440/7.2 liter take.
I changed the oil on my moms van for the first time and can not find anything on how much oil it takes.I got it perfect on the dip stick but 5 quarts on a 7.2 liter sounds low. Shop Key at my shop isnt giving any listings and i searched around on google.
So how much oil should a 7.2 liter dodge take.
Btw its a 77 dodge b300 with 128,000 og miles

Most older V8's used 5 quarts. Start the engine check for oil leaks. Shut the engine off, wait a min or two and recheck the oil level. As long as it's full on the stick go for it.
Ya theres no leaks or anything like just wanted to make sure since 5 quarts just seems low.It reads perfect on the dipstick though.
Overrated P.O.S. unless it's got a crutch attached. (454's respond well to superchargers....)
Of course, a 440 isn't a great design, but then again, it's reputation says it was good enough comparatively!
The normal truck application of the 440 had a 7 quart oil pan. The normal car application was built with a 5 quart pan. However, The guy who told me that, also said he's never seen one in a van, though, it's very possible.
If you can see the oil pan, it's not hard to tell. The truck pan has a well over a foot deep, and the car pan is much more shallow.
Best of luck!
