I've heard of a few people who have done this. I was wondering how exactly do you do, in case all else fails and thats your only option. Im thinking grab the back brake hard and try to swerve?? Or does it come natural? Or should I not worry about it?

 

Im a noob so i dont know anything about this, but from what i heard from more than one person is that if you are skilled in the operation and the rules and regulations of a bike you should not ever have to lay it down on purpose.

That being said i have no idea if its true or not. Id like to know also.

if you have enough time to "lay it down" then you had enough time to stop or swerve or do any number of things as your brakes should provide more stopping force than your body sliding against the pavement. The only "laying it down" that would be really legit is if you lost the front end when really hard on the brakes


high speed braking is one of those skills that people rarely practice (other than track junkies) which would be very beneficial for all riders




as with anything there are exceptions to the rule as nothing in life is 100% and I'm sure that every year a few people have very valid reasons for doing

lay a bike down on purpose save the case of an emergency.

 

I read an article (maybe in the AMA) that was written by a guy who liked to crash on the track. I can't remember why, but I do remember that it wasn't a completely stupid reason.

 

its always better to low side a bike in an emergency situation rather than high side...... and yes, standing on the rear brake and swinging your tail end around will low side the bike.
