When you hear the name AAA, the first thing that comes to mind is probably maps and emergency road service, two of the cornerstones of our organization. But these days AAA is known for much more - assisting people in many facets of their lives, including travel and lodging; auto buying, leasing, renting, and repair; financial services such as loans and credit cards; and insurance needs.
AAA has a Wide Range of Services for Life and Leisure

We can provide you with car rentals; cruises on an assortment of popular cruise lines; discount travel for those looking to save a penny; travel directions to keep you on the right track; online maps, a convenient alternative to cumbersome printed maps; a helpful trip advisor; and point-to-point driving directions.
AAA also helps in the automotive realm, providing new car buying tips and insights to people who prefer buying used cars. In addition, part of the AAA member services is to give auto enthusiasts extra assistance through our AAA Automobile Club and Automobile Association. And if you need help getting a car loan, AAA has you covered there as well. Re: question about AAA
I can't speak directly for AAA of Virginia, but....
I had AAA in Michigan for 5 years. It was expensive but well worth it.
My grandpa had it for about 40 years, and my dad about 20 years. They offer great towing service, and don't give you a hard time about paying out for collisions. Plus, they offer good discounts to resturants, theme parks, and hotels.

Re: question about AAA
I love AAA. I had them tow my talon when i was building the engine 3 times. It didnt have a motor in the car and they didn't care.
My old trucks fuel pump went out on 495 outside of DC (i live in hampton roads) and I had them tow it to almost the limit (Fredericksburg,Va). A week later, the Autozone pump took a crap in Va Beach and AAA towed it back to my house again.
All in all, it's so worth it. The only thing that kinda sucks is they wont do accident scenes from what I have experienced.
