Got a Good question for all. 96 Tacoma Related... $$$ for solution.
1996 Toyota Tacoma
V6 200K.
Was running fine. Took it out for drive, at night. Got to destination put on my 4 ways and the truck died.... Restart it and it starts then stalls. I turn off my headlights and start it, and she runs and idles fine. I can drive it in 50 feet dashes with the parking lights on before it dies. Video can describe it alot better. So here is a video that i took of it.

Sounds like something is draining power. Do a voltage test on the Alternator. If you can, you might need two people, when your car is started turn on your lights and test the lights lines.

my civic did almost the same thing, however it was the ignition recall. basically they just replaced the area where the key goes in and the wiring i would assume.

I replaced the alternator.
I really dont want to throw parts at it, Im on a limited budget. Is there anyway to test the ignition?

It could be a lot of things. How are your battery terminals? They may need cleaning. What about your coilpacks? Are you getting smoke when it stalls out or starts up? What warning light is that on your dash besides the seatbelt? Good luck.

Terminals are good. I hate electrical problems... It seriously stalled as soon as i hit the 4 was, so Im trying to think what circuit that the 4 way switch could be on...

loose thick gauge wire going to starter or alternator?!? maybe even to the fuse box... have you replaced any fuses lately? sometimes fuses get corrosion on them under the hood and cause problems... just a few ideas... hard to figure out without seeing the truck

I watched the video really careful a couple of times. I am familiar with Toyota trucks. I wish I was closer so I would help you out, I am in NOVA. I would check the grounding for the intrument panel and then the grounding for the fuse box. Try this, if you take out all 4 fuse for the headlights HB and LB L and R and try it again. Have you done any wiring mods on this truck?
If you have, is it wired properly with a proper fuse. If not the wires may have melted into the original car's harness. I would just slit the black tape in some areas where the headlight switch down to the fuse box and see if there is any signs of burnt wire or anything.
Also.. Check the wiring harness behind the headlights. Is it in good shape, not corroded? What about any damages from like any kinds of frontal collision?
