Someone in my neighborhood wants me to upgrade their turbo on their srt4 (mani,wastegate turbo fmic etc)But their new turbo doesn't have water lines(only oil feed and return). He said to just block off the water feed but i figured i would ask if this is smart before i do this for him? He is running a turbonetics wg, agp mani and i beleive a ebay turbo. I checked srt forums but i am not a registered member and i didnt see anything. And usually i wouldn't touch his neon but he is giving me his stock turbo and fmic, so i'll be selling those items soon!!!!

 

Hope he is upgrading his fuel pump and injectors also his ECU ...

 

No he isnt, this kid doesn't know much about anything, his dad buys all kinds of shit for his car. Not trying to scam the kid , i just don't want to do a half ass job and have him blame me. And no the kid isn't me, i drive a civic

 

I wouldnt touch it if he isnt upgrading any of the fuel management. The car will be starved for fuel and require a tune for the turbo to be any good. Just slapping it on the car will run horrible if at all

 

As far as the water lines are concerned, blocking off the stock water lines will be fine. I would recommend that he gets a different turbo though, the CHRA stays much cooler when they're water cooled, and there isn't as much chance that the bearings will coke when the car is shut off. It's just a shame to have everything you need for a reliable turbo setup and then not use it, I wouldn't even touch a turbo without water cooling nowadays because they're so easy to come by and longer lasting.
