speedomteter isnt working

my speedometer isnt working any one have an idea what it may be ?? is just gonna be sumthin like a wire messed up or what ?? im slow i dont know these things

could be just a wire messed up, but it could be a spedometer cable or a few other things... What kind of car is it?

try smacking the dash right above the speedometer real hard once or twice...thats how we fixed it in my friends neon
