Good deal for a beginner?
Found a 03 Honda F4i with low miles (less then 2000) it looks and drives great. Only aftermarket part is a slip-on exhaust. The dude wants 5K but said he would take 4500 cash. Come to find out its the guy I work fors nephew. He said he barely rides it and when he did it was just cruising cause he was kinda scared of it.... I've had dirtbikes forever but never a streetbike, would this be a good beginner bike for me? It seems like a good deal...what do you guys think?

$4000 in one pocket, $500 in the other. Take that to him. Sometimes, its hard to say no. Just don't be cocky with the bike and you will do fine.

There's lots of reasons to purchase a less-expensive bike for your first bike. Riding's not for everyone and there's a lot more to think about on the road than on the dirt. Also, buying a less expensive bike will make you more comfortable with working on it yourself and avoiding costly repair shop bills (and wrenching on your own piece of machinery always means more). Finally, less money spent on the bike means more money you'll have to get some decent gear so if and when you do go down, you will be protected.
Overall, you don't want to spend a lot of money on your first bike to find out it's not for you, you can't work on anything yourself or you don't have any money for decent gear. Just my $.02 but that's why I kept my first bike under a grand. Good luck with the decision and be respectful.
