I have a 98 B18C5 that smokes (black) at high RPM's and leaves a residue. Black means running rich so I checked a couple of things and found out that the thermostat was bad and the car was running too cold and it took too long to warm up. So i fixed that, changed the fuel filter and did the timing belt and water pump. The engine feels a lot better but I'm still getting some smoke. What else could be causing this problem?
Thanx
maybe something like bad valve seals. something like a cup seal that wraps about the bottom of the valves.
It's possible that the valve seals are worn. Did you you use a oil squirter after the initial compression test and then recheck the compression? Dramatic (about 15% or more) increase in compression is usually a sign of worn rings. If there is no increase at all, then your valve stem seals are probably bad.
