Re: Solar water heater?
i would but our old 1976 natural gas water heater/furnace/central What ever that contraption is heating is huge and hard to remove. i would rather pay a license professional to remove the old one and install a new one.

They have kits you can buy, though usually people just make them, where its a network of pipes on your roof. basically it just runs up there and the sun heats the pipes and you get hot water. doesnt seem like the most reliable thing on earth to me though.

Or, you could have a thermostat-regulated solenoid that circulates the cold water destined for the hot water tank through the roof heaters first (but not at night or when it's very cold out). This will decrease the amount of electricity required to heat it up in the tank.
The efficiency really depends how you use your hot water, as this is only really effective if you take showers while the sun is shining.
