Auto Evolution Car Show at Olde Salem Days 2008
Normally, it's strictly an antique car show.... but with participation declining, and the organizers wanting a more diverse atmosphere at Olde Salem Days Fair in general, they have decided to broaden the car show. It's next Saturday, September 13th. In order to participate, you must be there between 7:00 and 9:30am and the car can't move until 4:30pm with so much pedestrian traffic.

So you've been to the show before huh? I've only been a few times and it's been fairly packed every time... its true that the organization, judging, etc have been half-assed recently... hence their interest in changing things up. They've never had the number of awards, give-aways, advertising, or help in general that they do this year, so I forsee the event to be a success.

on the local car show "circuit" so to speak, there are only three shows that bring the crowds and the cars: MDA, Star City Cruisers, and usually the one in Vinton also. The rest are generally smaller shows, with smaller turnout, but generally have REAL cars, not the high dollar show cars.
Most of the people are less of a douchebag also lol.
In Christiansburg, the Sat. night gathering at KMart is always good, and the Cruisin Christiansburg is doing well.
I wish them luck on this show, because I will say from experience of managing a car show (100ish cars each year) its a fucking bitch.

Funny that I'm an exhibitor at Olde Salem Days, and a local Salem business owner and this is the first I've heard of it.
Of course, coming from the Jaycees, their lack of promotion doesn't surprise me.

Re: Auto Evolution Car Show at Olde Salem Days 2008
I went to every Olde Salem Days when I was younger and never really noticed the car show either until later on. It's set up all the way on the end at College Ave. I think the Jaycees do fairly well with their promotions. You have to remember that the fair is a charity based event and all the promotion that they DO use is a sort of donation by the advertiser. Hopefully the inclusion of all cars in the show and other new aspects of the car show will spark more interest for the future.

No, I know about the car show that they have there. My car has been in it several times. I bought my Corvette because I saw it there with a for sale sign on it.
Usually, though, it's just a "show", no trophies and no entry fee. This is the first I have heard of it being an actual competition.
