im having a little trouble with my ninja 250:

when i start it up it (using the choke) it runs fine, but once i let off the choke or give it any throttle at all it dies. i dont know much about it since i only got it a few months ago, but it was running great up until this.

it was rained on - could that be what is causing it to stall or maybe its not getting gas or something?

dirty (clogged) pilot jets. happens alot, especially if the bike sat for any length of time unused. a 250 has REAL small pilot jets, so it doesn't take much at all to clog them up.

could also have water in the float bowls depending on how hard it was rained on. there's a drain screw on each carb bottom. turn the gas off, loosen the screws to drain the carbs, then tighten them back up, turn the gas back on, and see how it runs after that. if there's no difference, it's clogged pilots.

you can also try catching the gas as it comes out of the carbs. water is heavier than gas, and they don't mix, so you'll be able to see any water if it's in there.

 

^+1 definetly the carbs... you gotta run these 250's often otherwise prepare to do alot of maintinance.

 

ok ill check those tomorrow when its light out. it hasnt been sitting or anything.. its my daily driver here on campus. this just happened overnight when i didnt ride it because of the rain.

 

kind of hard if you dont have tools, but its pretty easy to clean the carbs, just take the fuel tank off, and pull the carbs off and try to cleans the jets if you can

 

Probably got a little water in them then. Try to drain.

 

thanks guys! i drained the float bowls and put some new gas in the tank and its running fine again.
