1998 TOYOTA AVALON
Hi, I'm new here, for more than one reason, but the first thing I'll post is about how I killed my mom's radio on her Toyota Avalon.
I think it has to do with a dime falling all the way into and being lodged into where the lighter goes. It killed the radio and clock/outside temp. display.
Any ideas?

Replace the accessory circuit fuse that feeds power to those things. That's a very common thing to do, but for some reason it's usually a penny. You've just shorted the power and ground together on the cig lighter socket, which blows the fuse and usually doesn't do anything other than that.
You can do it yourself, there is a fusebox under the dash. Find the fuse that is labeled with the cig lighter circuit, and replace it. Fuses are very cheap and there are also usually spares for the common ones in the fuse box already. I can't really explain any better how to change a fuse, but maybe you know someone that can do it for you? It's a complete waste of money to actually pay someone to do it.
