Hey my brother just turned 16 and got a 98 civic ex 5 speed. he was driving it home Monday and it died at the stop light. The guy that looked at it said the clutch was out, and said it would be $675 to fix it. I want to know is that right? and if not how much should it cost.
ya he said he was sitting at the stop light and it just died so he pushed it to the side of the road. how much would just a average clutch cost?
If the clutch somehow was unable to disengage, causing the engine to die (but somehow not restart I assume?), it would still be able to restart in neutral. Obviously it was able to go into neutral and disengage the engine or else your bother wouldn't have been able to push it off the road. Therefore it should be able to start and run without any problems in neutral.

Enjoy paying to fix the clutch and then paying to fix what's really wrong with it later
I agree with this diagnosis. I'm very skeptical that it's the clutch.
Ya he had to have put it in neutral to push it but he said it wouldn't start, if it wasn't just the clutch like the guy said what could it have been???
