Westboro Baptist coming to the area
Got this email at work today.
If I wasn't so hot tempered I'd love to organize something like the video where the bikers surrounded them with flags and such, all without confrontation.
Ladies & Gentlemen,
Information has been received from the Virginia State Police that members of
the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC), a religious group known for protesting
U.S. military funerals, are planning several protest activities in the local
area. The date and location of the protest activities are as follows:
- 12/01/2008: VA Beach, VA- Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base,
Indep. & Shore.
- 12/03/2008: Virginia Beach, VA- Fort Story, 83rd & Atlantic
- 12/03/2008: Norfolk, VA- Norfolk Naval Station, Hampton Blvd &
International Terminal Blvd
- 12/03/2008: Virginia Beach, VA- Oceana Naval Air Station, VA Beach
Blvd & First Colonial
- 12/03/2008: Portsmouth, VA- Portsmouth Naval Medical Center,
London Blvd & Effingham
- 12/03/2008: Yorktown, VA- USCG Reserve Training Center, GWM
Highway & Main
The WBC is highly organized, has multiple members who are lawyers, and
appears to seek confrontation in order to file lawsuits that result in
monetary settlements used to fund church activities. To that end, WBC
members will often video the protest event and any interaction with the
public in an attempt to capture litigation opportunities. At past events,
the group did not engage in violence when they were left alone; however,
their provoking language and flag desecration are designed to incite a
response and subsequent confrontation - do not allow yourself to be lured
into their plan. All personnel should avoid the WBC and their activities if
at all possible. If WBC members are present and avoidance isn't an option,
the best course of action is to completely ignore them.

I leave the 3rd for 3 weeks, probably a good thing, however, their first stop is Little Creek, and I happen to go right through that intersection when I'm leaving.
Just ignore them. They punish themselves enough through the public opinion of what they do and what they stand for. The fact that they've let their religious beliefs escalate to such a morally backward state is judgment enough upon who they are and what they do. Just give them pity and hope someday they revert to nice, normal, harmless radical fundamentalist beliefs. The only good people like that ever do is the good viewed through their own eyes, and what they do in the name of religion is something they will have to answer for.
I don't know...you just have to feel sorry for people whose daily existence depends on an artificially imposed moral superiority complex. What a hollow way to live.
The fact that they purposefully provoke bystanders and then use protest litigation to fund their activities absolutely disgusts me. I think that's the most offensive and morally bankrupt part of how they operate.

It would be a shame if they were "accidentaly" in the way of a "training session" and got shredded to peices with automatic weapon fire.
Sorry, I know I probably sound like a lunatic, but I hate these fuckers.

See, here's what happens. You ignore them and they go away. We have a half dozen or so religious crackpots (yes, I don't think they're completely sane) who come to our campus and try to provoke and debate college students. They multiply in the nice weather, because people pay attention to them and stand in big crowds listening to their rants and diatribes. When it's cold or windy out, no one wants to hang around and pay attention to them. They yell into the winds for a while, then they disappear.
