whats the difference between the 2 b20s
i am about to purches a jdmb20b for my 1990 da teg and i see 2 kinds of them one has a short intake manifold and the other one has a long intake manifold which one should i get whats the difference between the two.
Exactly what it states. The long intake one you have to change the intake manifold. But it gets more in depth then just the intake manifolds. Actually its three different ones. All jdm ones are b20b's regardless if its the high compression, low compression or the low compression with the p8r head. The usdm b20z is a high compression one.
Only way to tell the jdm b20b's apart is looking for a knock sensor just like the B series vtec motors have. If you receive one with the knock sensor in the back of the block it is the high compression motor.
If you are going to leave it non vtec, i would look for a usdm b20z, or i know passwordjdm sells the high compression one but you will pay more. The ones with the big tall manifolds, from experience, is the ones that sometimes come with the rare p8r head. If you going to throw a vtec head on one, and plan on doing internal work then the cheapest one would be the best route.
Hope that helps.
