Since I live out in the sticks of Warrenton and never see these things (no emissions for us), do they actually stop and ticket people if you drive by and read over? I remember seeing these all the time years ago back when I worked in Tysons, but it was always some private company doing the sniffing and I was told it was more for research and air quality, etc for establishing clean air laws etc. Are they now cops running these and pulling people over?
How does an emissions testing van work? Do they stop traffic and test individually or is it something that detects as you drive by and they pull you if you're in the bad?
I've seen numerous threads about this but I've never seen them on the road! Maybe cuz I dont have to worry about emissions *shrug*. I dont know if I'd be able to tell the difference between these and regular surveyors...
