What is the circled thing and what is its function? the haynes manual calls it a wastegate seloniod. what exactly does it do? Its a 91 eclipse turbo it is supposed to have 2 vacum lines running to it but one of the fittings is broke off. what happens if its not hooked up. I suspected that the part is what sends the signal to the boost gauge. am i wrong? sorry for the shity cell phone pic

 

Pressure sensors for boost gauges don't have two vac lines running to them, and aren't called "wastegate solenoid". The wastegate solenoid controls the wastegate pressure signal in order to regulate boost pressure. It's what the ECU uses to go from an electrical signal to a pressure signal to control the boost pressure basically. You'll need a new one, or you can bypass it and get a manual boost controller. Don't just disconnect it and remove it though, or the ECU will throw a CEL.

Like I said before though, if you get a manual boost controller you shouldn't remove the wastegate solenoid, just leave it plugged in to the ECU so it doesn't trigger a CEL.

 

A 1st gen will not throw a CEL if the stock boost controller is disconnected.
