does it have coolant?

if yes, does it have enough ?

if no, is it leaking around the radiator cap? from a crack in the radiator? split hose?

it could be alot of things as stated above, it could be a hole it radiator, not enough coolant, no coolant, bad thermostat, and even as small as a bad radiator cap, etc. But we need more info on your problem.

the easier way to check for that is to check the reservoir, if it has oil in the coolant, then yeah, blown head gasket, but i was only thinking something simple... i don't like to make a suggestion that would make someone hate life and think they have to spend OMG so much money to fix shit....
