Default NEED TO BUY:Canon Rebel DSLR xS compatable lens

The wife dropped the camera, it landed on the lens and now it will not take pictures in the image stabilization mode.

I am looking for a replacement lens for the camera. Do not care much for the magnification, or aperature as long as it has image stabilzation it will work.

Ive been checking amazon and craigslist, and i just wanted to check here next to see if anyone had a spare lens that they dont use anymore.

Throw up what you got,

thanks,

Jon

You dont care what lens as long as it has IS?

Im guessing the kit lens was 18-55IS? What conditions are you shooting in the require IS?

potn's great but im trying to find something local if im going to be buying a used lens.

correct, 18-55 was the stock lens .

Just use the camera for ameteur photography, and general picture taking. Just dont have the steady hand.

Anybody have this happen before? is it even worth trying to get the lens fixed?

Well Im all about trying to help you out here. If you are getting blurry pictures there has to be something else going on not just shaky hand syndrome haha

To stop camera shake you want a shutter speed ATLEAST equal to you lens (mm). Of course faster will be better.

Lets say for example you are using the 18-55 @ 55mm

55mm multiplied by the 1.6 crop factor from your cameras sensor = 88

So your shutter speed should be at the very lowest 1/80. At that speed there still hay be some blur so going with a faster shutter speed would be better. During most shooting conditions that is a very easy shutter speed to obtain though. Dont be afraid to turn up the ISO to get the shutter speed up even higher. If you use the 18-55 and are shooting at speeds of 1/250 - 1/500 you should be getting nice crisp pictures.

Best thing I could tell you if you are having a hard time finding the lens locally would be to pick up the 50 1.8 You will love it. The 1.8 aperature will help get your shutter speeds up even higher since it is allowing more light to hit your sensor.

Didnt mean to take your thread of topic but from the sounds of it you are still new to photography so I just though I would try and help you out a little
