This small device is capable of integrating an Auto Meter tach into the electrical system of most late model vehicles. Without going into great detail, here is a brief overview of how it works and what it does. On every vehicle that has a distributorless ignition or even the newer coil on plug ignition system, there is a power supply that is fed to the coil(s). This is how and where the Tach Adapter connects, and how the engine RPM is determined. It connects to the power ‘feed wire’ and senses or sees the current draw each time the coil is energized to fire, in turn allowing a frequency to be calculated, and ultimately a tach to be connected. This device sees that current draw and provides the tach with its reading for engine RPM. It is rather simple to connect, as it only needs to be connected to the power lead for the coil(s), have a ground connected, and then the remaining wire is for the tach to connect to and show you the engine RPM.
