Exclamation 79 jeep cj7 with 304 help

does anyone on here know enough about older jeeps. i have a 79 with a 304 in it and it will start and idle and rev fine. but when i go to drive it will die on me after i turn the first corner and will have to let it sit for about 5 mins and then it might restart. has anyone had any experience or know anything that could cause this. ive heard i could replace the distributor with an hei disrtibutor and coil and it should fix it . any input will help. thanks

still have mechanical fuel pump on it or is it electric? checked fuel lines, checked the carb, are you still getting fuel to the engine?

What kind of carb is on it? Have you checked the fuel filter? It doesn't take much gas to idle or rev sitting still. Under load going around a corner it may be starving for fuel. A partially blocked filter will provide enough fuel for idle and reving but can't feed the carb bowl under load.
