Recommendation Needed
Looking for a good Shop to replace the starter on a Grand Am without reaming me on labor.
Near the Va Beach/ Wesleyan College area.
It probably needs to be towed to the shop, so if they have a cheap tow service, that's even better.
Any advice offered would be appreciated

Transverse engine? Is the starter located on the rear of the block? Probably put the car on some jackstands and access it from the bottom. Two or three bolts holding it in, I imagine.
I'd say, research http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/
....and do it yourself.

starters on FWD cars are fairly easy to acess. i just got done changing the oil on the SHO about 5 mins ago and the starter was right below the oil filter. very easy to get to once you move the lines around it out of the way. shouldn't be more than a 3 hour job. starter should run you around 64.99 for one with a LLT. is it a 6 or the quad 4?
starter is 2 or 3 bolts, a ground and another wire. its real easy to replace on my GM, takes maybe 10-20 minutes with the car on jacks. before you go pay for a shop to do it, see if you can do it yourself and if not, ask someone in the central forum to give you a hand with it. shop labor charges = bullshit. id give you a hand if i didnt live like 1.5 hours away
I hate changing anything on a FWD car except the spark plugs on a Honda or Ford Zetec. They are some of the most ill conceived packaging I’ve ever seen.
With that said you could easily do this yourself in the drive way with 2 jackstands, or some big blocks of wood.

I'll take fixing a FWD 4cyl over my fucking LT1 ANYDAY, no matter WHAT it is to fix.
I'd rather swap an entire motor out of a FWD 4cyl then TUNEUP my LT1.
