Default mini me help

i have a 88 crx and it has a blown head gasket but it has the 8 valve head can i just put my y8 vtec head on that block or do i have to change the motor too thanks

I am not 100 percent sure, but I do not think that the pistons will have the relief for the extra valves. If this is the case then you will need to swap it.

well what if i just put a 16 valve head on the block will that work ? its just a car that i am working on to fix up and sell but it would sell better with a 16 valve head

Why are you asking the same question? If you notice he already answered your question.
Valve reliefs are in the pistons, pistons are in the block. But I think your ok, putting the y8 or other non vtec head. And I would say it is Dual point, so while your at it you might as well convert to multi port.

OP,

Why don't you just use the same head that was on the engine? If the head is messed up I understand, I would take it to a machine shop to check to make sure that it is good. You might just have to mill it to make it true again.

What I was saying with the reliefs is that the valves might touch the pistons and in return could cause a larger problem.

its a 8 valve head and i just wanted to put a better head on it but i didnt know if the head would work since the block and head are a 8 valve motor will the y7 head work on the 8 valve motor and its all ready mpfi

Ok,

so it sounds like you have a 16 valve bottom end then. I still think that you might run into an issue putting a 8 valve head on a 16 valve bottom. The valves are larger on the 8 valve heads and they still have a chance of making contact with the pistons.

If I am wrong on the set up please let me know what you have. Which bottom end and which hear you are planning on putting together.
