I am having an issue with a recently swapped 88 si with a jdm b16a car runs great but will not go into vtec. It feels like the motor is being choked up, (not to be confused with misfiring) around 5-6k but will rev fine in neutral but in gear it chokes. It seems as if the when going past 5k the motor starts to loose power, no bucking, misfiring just simply as if you are about to hit redline or floating if you will. Possibly fuel or ignition issue?????

 

Are you sure the cam timing is right?

 

yes triple checked it.

 

have you checked your codes yet?

 

vtec solenoid?

 

proper ecu?

 

so you're hitting an early rev limiter basically?

sounds like limp mode, check your codes, then get back to us

 

this was the motor that was in my daily crx. I have never had this problem unless it was cold,It kind of sounds like limp mode but that usually hits earlier then 5k.does it rev limit and hesitate?or does it hit 5k and slowly wind down?and please check the ecu and post if there are any codes.

and are you sure you wired in vtec correctly?one time i did a swap and had no vtec until i found mismatched two wires.
