BMW M3 e46 SMG Questions

Thinking about getting a BMW M3 that has the SMG gearbox, and had a few questions for anybody that has (or had) one.

1. How is driving one with the SMG system compared to the "normal" manual setup? I've read that sometimes when you shift, it doesn't always shift as fast as what you would think it would. Of course there's the different drivelogic settings, but as a daily driver how is it. (I know the best thing would be to test drive it myself, but figured I'd get some other people perspective that have driven it).

2. Has anyone experience problems with the SMG gearbox? I've read that sometimes the pump goes bad, which can be a costly fix for it.

I've driven several and don't care for it. If you know how to drive with three pedals, buy one with three pedals.

The smg trans to me is a bit overrated. The stock 6-speed is quicker than the smg and if the smg pump goes out its expensive to fix. I have actually been trying to get an M3 or an S2K lately.
