Default WV (Winchester, VA area): 1988 325 327i all new suspension new tires 5MT

1988 325 with a SuperEta-based 327i/2.7i motor build. It is a 5-speed manual transmission coupe in Alpine White. The car could stand to be re-painted, which is what I will do with it if I don’t sell it. I have just faced the fact that I don’t have the time to rack it, even when I do finally get it finished.

ACTUAL miles are 168K (ish), but I swapped in a new cluster with a 7K tach when I rebuilt the motor and added the head from a 325is (gives the HP of an “is” with the torque of the non-“is” vehicles). The cluster that was installed shows 131,500. I took a picture of both clusters side-by-side when I installed it to verify the mileage.

I have done a lot of work to the car, and really don't expect to recoup all of these costs, but I will lay them out. Since the install of everything, the car has driven somewhere between 2 and 5 miles. I don't have it tagged to run on the street (I was building it to take it to AutoX and HPDE events), so I just irritate my neighbors by running it a few hundred yards every week or so to keep things moving.

Prices below are what I paid, give or take a few $$$ I have receipts for nearly EVERYTHING below:
  • Rebuilt 885 head with new seals, guides, valve job, etc. $340
  • Misc parts and costs for the motor build (labor, head bolts, gaskets, etc.) $250
  • 19#/hr fuel injectors (rebuilt) $50
  • Bilstein Sport struts: $400
  • H&R Sport springs $150
  • Brand new front and HD rear upper mounts (OEM): $150
  • RTABs (not installed) $30
  • 15mm front strut top-mount drophats (not installed)
  • AKG polyurethane subframe bushings (not installed) $75
  • “Oversized” front swaybar from a convertible, with brand new endlinks $70
  • Powdercoated and rebuilt calipers $100
  • New pads and rotors (Brembo and PBR rotors, Mintex OEM pads) $160
  • 3.73 limited slip differential $200 (have a spare that is noisy, as well)
  • Brand new control arms and (complete- not just ends) tie rods $200
  • Polyurethane control arm bushings $??
  • UUC stainless steel brake lines (4 of the 6 installed) $100
  • OEM Z3 shifter and all new shift mounts, bushings, etc. (not installed) $100
  • lightly used stock exhaust from a 325is $100
  • Falken Azenis 615 tires $250
  • Hartage replica 15” wheels $250
  • Mount and balance on “track” wheels/tires $50
  • 5 stock BMW bottlecap wheels with good (90% tread) tires $200
  • Custom rear strut bar & BavAuto front strut bar $150
  • 7K "is" cluster $30
  • 2 DME (ECU/computer) modules- stock, and one with a MarkD custom tuned for the built motor $65
  • Plastic bumpers with euro trim, bumper shocks, and wiring pigtails (not installed) $250
  • White mirrors $35
  • Convertible/M3 front seats (6 or 7 out of 10 shape) with houndstooth headrests and houndstooth rear seat $100
  • 2 different 3-spokesteering wheels $30
  • Brand new battery $50
  • E28 M-Tech2 Spoiler (uninstalled)

All told, I have about $5000 in this car. Obviously, it is not worth $5000, but I think that somewhere around $4000 is fair, so I will start at $3900. The car is not perfect, but for someone who wants a car to take to the track to save wear and tear on their daily driver, it is great. With a maaco paint job and the rest of the parts installed, this car could be awesome at the track or on the street.

In addition to all of the parts above, I have a lot of spare parts that I have collected over time- spare axles, spare differentials (limited slip and open), steering rack, ECU/DME, stock wheels/tires, and many other small parts.

I also have TONS of pictures, all receipts, and a documented build thread about this vehicle.
