Hey guys. I'm rebuilding a '87 XL250R in my living room and finally identified the home this mystery "cap" that I had discovered in the bottom of my crankcase. It appears to be an oil gallery plug that fell out of the end of my countershaft. I need it to go back in and never come out. So, I'm looking for a local machine shop, repair shop, or gear head that will either:

If that plug already came out, you don't want to put the same plug back in. It's a press fit, and hollow things that are press fit don't really fit correctly more than once. Get a new plug or get it tapped for a threaded plug. I'm not really sure I'd put an NPT ("pipe plug") in the cam though, because the threads are very coarse and the hole has to be pretty large because it's tapered. You don't really want a nice stress riser at the end of the cam where the sprocket is. A finer thread non-tapered plug would probably be a better idea.

I saw a R6 engine completely grenade a few years ago from that exact same problem. That basically dumps almost all of the oil pressure in many of the critical locations. Nothing in the top end was worth salvaging so the plug was never reinstalled.
