NCCAR in April

NCCAR in April
So I'm all but signed up for NASA HPDE2 at NCCAR. I've been to Summit Point and VIR and wanted to try NCCAR for a few reasons: cheaper, more time and pretty close to Richmond. Has anyone been and have any impressions? I want to try to camp, is it allowed?
Thanks,
Travis

Re: NCCAR in April
There seemed to be plenty of room when I went with NASA-SE and theres no problems with camping.
NCCAR has nice facilities, nicer than summit but not as nice all around as VIR. The track is different than VIR and Summit, a lot of steady-state cornering. I like a lot of elevation change so it didnt appeal to me over Summit and VIR. I think for a newer person in HPDE 1/2 its a perfect track for focusing on looking ahead, carrying speed, and lots of runoff room. Although they hadnt quite finished the curbing yet and when I went 4 wheels off I ripped off my cat-back exhaust... Im sure they have curbing in now.
For anyone thats HPDE 3/4/TT/Racer, it wont appeal to you nearly as much, pbut like all tracks, you gotta do it at least once!

registered, went last year with a group of locals. loved the track smooth, wide, and different lines to play with. I think they allowed camping last year bit there no actual site for it, it'll be next to the garages which can be rented for about $250 i think.

Re: NCCAR in April
Good to know. I hope to camp if weather is warm enough. I saw some videos and the track without curbing just seemed odd. I use it quite a bit at VIR & summit so I hope they have it now. I'd probably rather go to Summit Point in April, but I guess D_Eclipse is right, just got to try it once. I'll be in HPD2 so hopefully I can really try some new stuff with the wide track.

My impression of NCCAR is a huge go-kart track. As stated above, not a lot of elevation change, but a wide track with no single "correct" line. Wide enough to try different lines and forgiving if you make a mistake. Enough g-forces that you want a race seat and harness set up for comfort. Tough on tires but easy on brakes. NASA event #1 had a chicane on the front stretch Sat, and it was removed on Sunday. Event # 2 it was voted to leave it out. Some sites say they are running clockwise one day and counter clockwise the 2cnd day, but they have always run down the long straight and into the hairpin . I believe there is/was a safety concern that prevented running it the other way. I was at the inaugural event with NASA, and have registered for every one there so far. Its fun, and with no racing, you get more HPDE time. At the end of the day on Sunday, the track is almost empty, everyone has had so much tracktime that they quit and go home. The last session on Sunday of event #1, there was only 3 of us on track, we had a blast! Plan on using more gas than normal!
