Winter/Spring Surfing in the 757
Ok, I have never surfed in cold weather, but looking to get back into the water here soon. I dont want to have to wear a full wetsuit (hood, footies, etc) but I am going to purchase a full-length. When is a good time of year when the water warms a little to get back in? If that makes any sense
Surfing in 757 or Hatteras area is pretty much unbearable until late April if your lucky, most times its like ^ said mid to late may. I just left the British Isle of Tortula this morning after a two day drinking and Surfing extravaganza, it was just over head high and barreling, last week I surfed Recon in Puerto Rico which was awesome. Suggestion is grab you a cheap plane ticket off the net and head down to the Carribean. I would post pictures but the files are to big.
Uhm, if your just now getting in the water and not an avid surfer i'd do research on the spots you go. Don't paddle out to a foreign location thats got some faces you can't handle. That would royally suck for you to pay all that money for a trip and not be able to surf cuse the waves are too gnarly.
If i had the $ i'd more than gladly hit costa with you. Hit up hermosa or any of those breaks. Puerto Rico would be super fun to head to right now.
But ya, I normally start heading back out end of april-beginning of May. Soon as the water hits upper 50's. You can always head to Florida!! a lot cheaper.
I'm saving my $ for a plane ticket to Hawaii now... w00t.

Waves here are crap. I went out in early April with my shorts and a rash guard 2 years ago. Didnt stay in long though, maybe 30 minutes at 1st street. With a full suit you could start in mid to late April. Anytime sooner and you might want to invest in some booties...at least. Hope you can catch something. If you go down to NC then maybe you might find something but nothing too clean. Just check out the surf report from one of the local shops.
