Default 93 Civic Auto trans problem..

Ok so heres the deal, i bought a civic last night and it has a shifting problem. I knew this before i bought it too. I got a goooood deal on it that i couldnt pass up. Worst of the worst ill put a trans in it, im trying to avoid that but if need be...i will. This is my first automatic, so im hoping to get some help from some of yall..

So here we go...

When i turn the car on and put it in D4 it will move but it will stay in first gear, unless i shift it manually it will go into second gear. When i "click" it up into 3rd it wont shift out of second. So when i put it back into D4 while driving, it will stay in second gear. So basically i only have 1st and 2nd. I know there are "silly"noids to keep it from shifting and what not, but here is the other kicker. The CEL isnt on. It works, but it isnt on. Thats all i got for you guys right now

Ask away and help me figure this thing out. Thanks in advance!

Sean
