91 crx si.. Need help asap.
whats up guys,
So my buddy has a 91crx si. usdm gsr pretty much stock besides ctr cams and a skunk2 ITM. I've gone over the car. I know there is no Fuel Pump fuse to my knowledge. Found the fuel pump relay but i'm not sure that its bad. It does click when you turn the car to the on position. I figured next I'll check the main relay but how do I know if its bad or not?
Situation:
He said he was driving the car, about half way through his Vtec powerband he heard a "click, almost like a pop" and the car was coasting to a stop and no longer running. the oil light came on
Now the car cranks fine but will not start. Acts like its not getting fuel. And the fuel pump does not seem to be kicking on. So i went over every fuse (under the hood, under the dash) etc. through out the harness and there seems to be no short or anything of that kind. I've seen on the forums through out, that people with CRX's say the main relay and fuel pump relay go bad often. Is this true? I jumped his ECU looking for a check engine, he does not have one. At this point just looking for some input because i'm not super familiar with the EF/CRX chasis. Thanks - any input is greatly appreciated -

There is a fuse for the fuel pump. It's actually a shared fuse for a few components, and the fuel pump is switched directly by the PGMFI main relay. On later Civics that is fuse 14, but I don't know if that's the same fuse number on the earlier Civics.
Honestly though, you should hear the fuel pump priming when you turn the key to the on position (without starting the engine) if the fuse and relay are working fine. The fuse is easy to test obviously, and there is a ton of information out there on how to locate and test the problematic PGMFI main relay.

Ill check the relay today, wasn't sure on it.. ill keep looking. thanks. I checked all the fuses last night on the hole car. Fuse 14 which is the "Alternator solenoid Valve fuse" on a crx i checked as well. New a few people that have blown that and car wouldn't start. so i checked that first along with the rest of the fuse's.
I think that's the correct fuse, I seem to remember the alt solenoid is one of the things that is shared on that fuse besides the fuel pump. Keep digging away, you'll find the problem.
check the main relay, it's under the driver's dash, directly above the hood release. I had a very similar issue one day after work; drove the car to work, parked it, came out @ 5, would crank and crank and crank, but never fire. Tapped on the main relay and she fired right up. Those relays go bad fairly easily and sometimes just tapping on it will "unstick it" and the car will fire up. That pop he heard was probably the relay a) sticking or b) going bad.
Yea thanks guys. I appreciate the help. Waiting for him to get off work at 5 then i'm going back over to finishing lookin at. it can't be but so many things.. i'm guna try both the main and fuel pump relays first. Also i did already try taping on them last night no change. so hopefully one just shorted out and went bad. again thanks though. ill update shortly.
