So I have wanted to purchase an Ep3 for awhile now but just haven't been able to find the right deal. I am currently trying to purchase a 2005 Ep3 if the seller and I can come to a fair agreement.
From what I know,
1 Owner
Taffeta white
Civic Type R conversion
2004 Type R motor complete swap
Type R Tranny
Type R cluster
Type R lip kit
Seibon Carbon Fiber hood
Spoon Calipers
Spoon Rims
Spoon Valve cover
Spoon mirrors
RBC Intake manifold
Password JDM intake with battery relocator
Clutchmaster stage 3 clutch
K-pro
Buddy club header
Buddy club suspension racing spec 2
Buddy club short shifter
Buddy club rear camber kit
Apexi W2 exhaust
The only discrepancy I have is that the owner tells me that the engine only has 18,000 miles. But the cluster shows around 90x,xxx KM because he states when it had 12,xxx miles he purchased a used Type R cluster from ebay that read about 5x,xxx KM which he installed himself. He says that at the time he never planned on selling the car so he never had the cluster recalibrated to the original engine miles.
When I checked the carfax it showed that in a about two years the odometer jumped from 12,xxx to 5x,xxx (The previous years showed that the car is driven on average about 3,xxx miles a year). He said that this was due to the cluster swap. He seems like an honest person and I want to believe him.
(Side note: Is there any chance that during inspection they never converted the KM to miles when recording odometer?)
As of right now he is asking for $19,500. But my bank will only give me around KBB value price for the loan. And God forbid something happens to the car, then I will be in the hole because my insurance will only give me around KBB value as well.
I am very interested in this Ep3 so I can finally get rid of my 97 Prelude. What do you guys think is a fair price for the both of us?
Something else I forgot to mention was the he told me that it has no catalytic converter, but it will still pass emissions test. Is this true?
Thanks, any knowledge and wisdom you guys can pass down to me is greatly appreciated.
almost 20k for an ep3 is kinda steep imo but it does seem to have legit parts. however i wouldnt buy it
-price is high
-dont know how sound the swap is
-youre fucked if something does go wrong with it
i also highly doubt the mirrors and valve cover are real, the valve covers are extremely rare and the mirrors are just about impossible to find. in fact ive never seen a real set of spoon mirrors. and a stage 3 clutch is completely unnecessary

and for 20k you could get something so much nicer imo.
like stated before. my boy just got a 2008 si with i/h/e and tl-s rims for 14,000. and its the nicest honda ive ever driven.
just something to think about.
seriously. id drive a dual point ef before an ep3. theyre slow as balls (which says a lot of a honda). i can assure you with about 99% certainty that it doesnt have a legit k20r swap also.

the swap is easy to verify. the authenticity of the other parts is a pain in the ass though
