I was driving on main street down near the 460 exit ramp. You all know the spot after Sound Main Auto where they closed the road down to one lane. Well there was a taurus next to me traveling at about 40mph. I started seeing signs to merge right, so i sped up to get in front of the guy because I was already a little ahead of him and didn't want to be a jerk and slow down with him and make it look like I was playing chicken. Then I heard the K band go off. So i hit the brakes and slow back down to the speed limit. I didn't see any cruisers so i continued on my way. After the lane opened back up to two lanes I see Mr. BlacksburgPD on his motorcycle behind me with the red and blues flashing. 49/35. You guys think I should just pay or go to court and see what the judge has to offer? I have a perfect record and a "good reason" for why I did what I did. Any help would be appreciated greatly.

 

I would just tell the truth, you sound like you did what you had to, to not cause a wreck by not getting over and stuff. Plus a good record...i think you'll get off easy, you should get the other driver of the taurus as well he may get into more trouble than you for not giving the right-of-way.

 

be glad he didnt give you a ticked for 49/25.....that is a construction zone, and there are temp signs out that say 25mph....

suck it up and pay it....hate to say, but that is the better thing to do. try and fight if you want, but he gotcha. and at least he didnt give you a ticket for haivng a detector....

 

u were going 14 over to pass a dude? Don't think it's going to help...really depends on the judge.. I've been to court a lot..haha some judges are laid back..some are total assholes and would say you know the speed limit..if you couldn't pass him doing the speed limit you should have gone behind him..

In botetourt I got a ticket for 13 over..I was in my neon and the damn speedo went out on the way to the store.. on my way home I got pulled over.. Went to court with a slip saying my speedo was broken.. judge said I have been driving long enough to know I was speeding.. (I had been driving for 5 months)

 

Either way they are going to make you pay i bet.

Yea, you might get it reduced if you go, but then again it prolly won't be enough to make up for court costs....if it weren't so near a construction zone you would have a better chance of getting out of it.


Only thing I see you getting out of a ticket in that situation (near construction) and that much over to 'easily' pass someone is if the judge just had some really great sex or something...

go to court, but dont "fight" it. admit what you did was wrong, but say at the time you didnt know what else to do. if you were polite to the cop, and do the same to the judge, i almost guarantee the judge will drop it

 

well, if you don't go to court then you have to pay a processing fee.

BTW, how old are you? if you are under 18 i'll bet that they will drop it and make you take DIP

 

I turned 19 this month. So thats 3 years of "perfect" driving. What is DIP?
