Dad's New Project

Dad's New Project
Out with the old, in with the new. It all started out with the rat rod project my dad and I were building. It started its life as just the cowl section of a 30'-31' Model A Ford. After some time and thinking we came up with a plan. We started with 2x3 square tubing and built the frame. Using cardboard as templates we came up with the design for the rest of the cab and bed. In a nut shell it was about 90% scratch built.
There was never an intention to sell or trade this but he did say if the rite price/trade ever appeared it would be gone. This build was just to see if we could build it with what tools we had in the little space we were given. Since it was something to keep up busy there really wasn't an attachment to it. We plan to build another one starting with the full body of a Model A sedan. This will be done later on down the road.
On to the new project.
This little beast started life as a 1966VW Type 3 (squareback). Over time it looks like it got the cancer pretty bad so the previous owner decided to make something different. The top has had a 6" chop with the division bars in the quarter glass cut out to make a picture window setup, along with an 8 pt cage. The frame is 2x3 square tubing, mustang 2 front end with tubular control arms. The rear is a narrowed ford 9", 4.11 gears with a spool and Moser axles, ladder bar setup with adjustable coilovers. Just in case you are wandering those rear meats are 29x18.5x15 M/T sportsman tires. The kind you would see on a nice pro street hot rod. This is also set up for a sbc. The engine going in this is a 355 sbc that came out of the rat rod. We are going in 1 of 3 directions for this engine. The first being the way it was in the rat rod with just the tunnel ram and 2 carbs. The second would be to completely go through the engine, full roller valve train, low comp. pistons, tunnel ram with 2 carbs and twin turbo. The third would be the same as the second but with only a 6-71 blower. Not sure which route we will take.
More progress and pics will come.
Cheers

Re: Dad's New Project
Thanks gents. He has always been a aircooled vw fan but also a hot rod fan. Now he has the best of both worlds. In the coming weeks we will be getting alot done to it so stay tuned on the progress.
