Default Oil Cooler

I've been reading a lot on oil coolers and dunno if I should get one or not. I have a turbo-charged 420A Eagle Talon @ 5psi that's daily driven. I generally don't run it hard with the exception of the occasional running to 5krpm in 1st or 2nd when coming out of a turn, then slapping it into a higher gear and cruising. I'm taking it to Dinwiddie this weekend to find out my qtr. mile time. I hear thermal heat wrap helps too. Suggestions? Thanks all.

Do you have any idea what you're current oil temps are like? You can pick up a pretty hefty sized oil cooler from a 86-91 RX-7 (turbo or not, both had the same oil coolers).

Here's a shot of one that was on eBay, they run pretty cheap there, but you should be able to snag one at a junkyard for cheaper.

An oil cooler should help engine longevity.

Thermal wraps generally work better than thermal coatings at trapping in heat but they also trap in moisture which means rust. Also, because your header will run hotter (good for power) the metal will fatigue quicker and gaskets fail sooner. If you do go with a thermal wrap get a header with a corrosion inhibiting coating to help it last.

Thanks y'all. I've seen them pretty cheap myself... When I was in Miami last month, I saw a bunch of Imperial oil coolers at Advance Auto for $30. I'll have to invest in one of those. And as for thermal wraps, would I be able to remove and replace on a weekly basis? I didn't know if they used any adhesives that could prove worsome. 'Ppreciate it. How about a Fluidyne radiator?

Oil coolers are just something that for the small amount they cost, you might as well. Just about any aftermarket radiator should be an improvement over stock, but unless you're having heating problems I don't know why you'd need one at 5psi, again unless you're having problems with the stock unit

I figured I probably wouldn't need the after-market radiator. But, yes the oil cooler would probably be something worth investing in. Y'all seen the oil filter coolers on Ebay??? The item makes perfect sense. I might get one actually. I had no idea turbos ran so frickin' hot!! I got so many scars on my wrists and hands, LOL.

I dunno..... I have no idea how a nitrous set up works, scares the crap outta me. Before I got into cars, I remember watching F&F1 and O'Connor fu**ed up his motor using NOS, lol. So, I just never thought about using it. And, a kid in my neighborhood had a turbo civic w/nitrous and blew his motor while using it... but tha's also in conjunction with boost and stock internals. Which means me having to build internals and I have neither the skill/knowledge or the money.
