Default 88-91 hatch, d16a6 si question

i need to get my engine rebuilt, i cant afford the swap i want for a while, any suggestion for pistons or lower end rebuild kits that will go nice with a machined, and ported and all that good stuff, head? i will have multi angle valve job, port and polish, bowl matching, need a suggestion for valve springs too, with titatnium caps.. i think i am going to let abacus do the headwork, so any suggestions for my mild d16 non turbo buildup would be alot of help!! i know what i want, but im lost at how to get it.. i heard one guy did a machined head and saw a 40 hp increase over stock with headwork alone, stock cam.... this is about what i want... so what do i need to get it?

dude, what are you planning to buy that you can afford to do an engine rebuild, but can't afford to buy a new engine?

Abacus is definitely the way to go, but you should really buy everything they will need: pistons, rods, rod bolts, etc... before you take it to them. They do an excellent job, but an engine rebuild can be almost as much as a new engine, thats why I asked.

Cost of my LS-$350
Cost of building my bottom end $1200
Cost of the head with installed dual valve springs, milled, and mild port and polish $300
All the crap I had to buy before hand just to get it over there $800

See where this is going?

For what you're going to pay just do the swap. At the very least buy a zc even if it is temporary.

I think I remember a post or maybe it was an article or something about swapping a d15 head onto an d16a6 bottom end. since the d15 head is a little smaller, its supposed to boost the compression ratio. Can somebody back me up on this? Its supposed to throw like an extra 15 horses if I can remember the article correctly.

Hey, if you think about it, then it would make sense. But a boost of 15 hp is a lot, maybe it is at the crank so like 6-8 hp at the wheels. Which is not bad, if you have an extra head lying around.

I will try it if anyone has an extra head lying around.
