When I ordered my carbon fiber hood I had no way of picking it up without putting it on my car. So I called the Sheriff's office and told them that I was replacing my oem hood with a cf hood, and if it was illegal to drive without a hood on. He checked with three officers and told me to go head and drive like that, not illegal. His reasoning was that even though metal hoods absorb some of the impact during a crash, it is not necessary for it to be on the vehicle to operate it safely. Which indirectly means that cf hoods won't absorb a crash impact as well as an oem hood, but still there is nothing illegal about them. If any inspection centers give you hell over this, just get their name and location and report them to the transportation dept. saying they're harrasing you. pz
