I just completed my civic head swap. I have a 96 civic with a d16y7 block. I put a 95 vtec head on, with a d16y8 intake manifold. I need to know wut computer to use with this swap. Also the IAC Valve on the mani. Is a 2 wire male plug, and the female plug on my wiring harness is 3 wires. I need to know how to wire this up so my car won't idle all wacked out. If someone can fix this and wire up my vtec selinoid I will pay them, because I am tired of trial and error. PLEASE HELP...... Thanx.

go to about the 6th post down, theres a part about the IACV 3 wire to 2 wire conversion, also stated in other articles recommends you remove the oil control jet from the block for proper vtec activation

and about your solenoid, heres a decent article to read, its for a z6 but vtec wiring should be the same concept noted here

Use the ECU from the D16z6. I'm not too familiar with the engine numbers when it comes to D series, but you need to use the ECU from the engine that the head came off of. Otherwise you're not going to get the Vtec to work properly; or at all.

 

This is incorrect. The car is OBD2, and while the cylinder head is OBD1, it needs to be wired to OBD2 in order to work with the existing wiring. So the ecu you will need is the y8 one from OBD2 (P2P I believe).

 

so will i just need to plug up the p2p or will i have to re wire certain things?

 

Damn this is getting confusing. I just called a performance shop and they said I need to use the p28... (The ecu that matches the head) but then I have everyone else, and another performance shop telling me I need to use the P2P ecu.....WTF.....

a p2p will more then likely be the easiest ecu to use. if you go p28 it will require a conversion harness.

 

use the p2p ecu and get a y8 harness if you can. you are going to have problems bolting the distributor to the head as well
z6 has a different mounting pattern than the rest of the d series heads. i may have an ecu from my 98 ex coupe and a wiring harness
