the R1 is way too powerful for a noob. ESPECIALLY the 04's . and the 600's arent by any means SMALL bikes. im 6'2 240lbs and my 600 still feels big. dont hop on a 1000cc bike outright. it will more than likely be your first and last big mistake regaurding motorcycles.

600cc on a 400lb. bike is enough no matter how big a guy you are. Especially just starting out.

Why dont you take a riding course and get a license and then move to a bike. The second you learn to ride a 250, then try out a nice 600 and you will see the power your getting yourself into. Anything higher than a 600 hundred will either put an infinite amount of fear in you, or it will kill you outright. For the first bike stick 600 or less.

yea R1 is a pretty bad starter bike... i've had a couple friends start on them, and amazingly they are all still alive, but i think its just too much money, too much power for a first bike

agree 100% , entirely too much power for a newbie, 600s the way to go for a starter, and even for an experienced rider, the 600s are in competition with the 1000s these days.

I would go with the GSXR 750 and ill tell you why....... Its not as small and slow as a 600cc bike, you wont get bored with it and want a bigger bike after 6 months and if you want more speed and power, you can do the mods to be faster than a factory GSXR1000. Trust me, the 750 is where you want to be.
