Civic CV axles?

Ok I have a 98 Civic Ex coupe with an automatic tranny. My CV's are going bad. I have a pair of 5 speed CV axles from a friend, are they the same and will they work on my car? I ask this, because some people told me they wont/will work. Please reponse to my question, Thank You
