Default Help with choosing a clutch

Ok, I'll try to make it really simple.

I’m currently trying to decide what clutch to buy/install on my car.

I have the NX 75 shot (CAI, Straight Pipe, and other non-engine mods) in my car now and I am ordering the Fidanza flywheel. So I will be at almost 235 HP to the crank w/ nitrous.

The ACT Street clutch is rated at 233 FT/LBS and the 6 puck is rated at 298 FT/LBS. I know I won't be making that much torque, even if I am at 240 HP.

Do you think that I should go for the Steet Clutch or the 6 puck? Will the Street clutch last as long as the 6 puck? I HAVE done searching and it seems some people are shying away from the 6 puck bec. it grabs too quickly for daily driving but it will help in ETs, etc, but I haven't found much info about people that are running nitrous AND an ACT.

I don’t know how many of you are even gonna feel like reading this, etc, but I thought I would see if any of you car geniuses would be able to help me out.

Any input would be really shweeet...thanks!

Peace,

Jeff

hmm, the 2100 and 2600 seem to be a DSM sorta deal. All the searching I have done brings me to DSM pages when I search for that 2600.

It sounds like the puck type clutches create a lot of "chatter", etc, etc, blah blah. So I am leaning away from that and looking at the street clutch.

Hmm.

more help please

Question

Any reason you're going with ACT specifically? I loved my Centerforce for all 6,000 miles

Sorry can't help you there, I got mine from www.cyberauto.com, and they can probably get it for you, but don't stock it. As for holding capacity they go by percentage above stock. On my celi it was 20% higher for the I and over 100% for the DF...I'm sure it's differant for you though.

What car do you have? I wouldnt think you'd want the 2600, you seriously arent making the kind of power that would warrant a clutch like that. The reason so many DSMers use it is obvious, we are mostly awd and do 5500rpm launches, you I'm guessing wont be (like I said I dont know what car you have). The act 2100 or heavy duty clutch as its called with the organic street disk should be fine. The centerforce should hold slightly more but its really all up to you as either clutch should work fine. The 2100 is the clutch most preferred by the fwd DSM guys as they just dont need the instant hold off the line like the 2600 gives. However if a GSX were to use the 2100 and do launches it wouldnt hold up at all, only a few really solid passes on a decently modded car.

sorry, i have a 01 Celica GT. i'm leaning more towards the 6 puck now, as i am putting down torque very close to the rated capacity of the street disc after talking to someone about this. :\
