The only way to not get caught with laser is by buying a deflector that mounts like in the grill and costs $500-1200.

www.valentine1.com
google search escort, cobra etc. for some cheaper radars. Hurleys auto audio in Tysons (703-790-8744) does the front and rear bumper mount radar kits, not cheap but work well. For the most part fairfax county uses Ka and a little bit of K, but in the city they are big on lazer.

Since a lot of you travel thru MD at one time or another, I'll add what the cops tend to use in MD.
County and state cops almost always use K-Band. Its setup to immediately get a reading upon hitting ur vehicle, so that by the time ur radar detector goes off you're screwed.
Some county and some state cops use KA-Band. Its rare though.
Maryland Transportation Authority Police (the guys who watch the Bay Bridge, Fort McHenry Tunnel, and any other bridge/tunnel in MD that you have to pay money to use) use Laser at those toll facilities and at BWI.
MD State Police on the Eastern Shore do still use X-Band.
